We saw the allergist last week and he’d like to see us get more aggressive with trying new foods, with the goal to be off the Elecare formula ASAP, but definitely by the time the little guy turns 2.  So to get closer to that goal, we are trying out almond milk.

I just finished reading Jenny McCarthy and Dr. Jeffrey Kartzinel’s book Healing and Preventing Autism.  The book review will be coming shortly, but in the meantime, here are all the notes I took in the book using my Kindle (I love that thing!).  It is very long, but I think skimming the notes may give the readers a good sense of how amazing this book is and how valuable the information is to ALL parents, not just those with kids on the Spectrum.

In 2004, Congress passed the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act.  Its goal was to provide allergic consumers the information to make healthy and smart decisions, by having foods containing the Top 8 allergens clearly labeled.  Unfortunately, manufacturers have been slow to comply and consistently fail to accurately label their products, putting the allergic public in danger. Food: Shrimp (one of the Top 8 allergens)

Meal: Dinner
Size of Portion: Maybe 1 shrimp total
Reaction Symptoms: trouble going to sleep, apparent pain or reflux, screeching, waking up at 3am ready to party, wiggling around until 4am, needing “out of bed” help to get back to sleep, rash on lower back, pimply or hives seen the following morning
Resolution: administered 1/2 tsp Terramin Clay to stop the reaction and prevent the food from being fully digested.
